I’ve been baking pie for as long as I can remember. I can’t even tell you what the first pie I made was.

But I do remember rolling out those leftover scraps of dough from when my mother baked a pie, sprinkling them with sugar and baking them as cookies.

It’s something my daughters now do when I bake a pie – we call them ‘pie fries’. They dip them in jam and fight over them.
